First outing at Richmond Park on 11 October for the Young Athletes

It was a beautiful day in Richmond Park on which the Herne Hill Harriers (HHH) boys cross country squad gave of their best in the first of the Surrey cross country league fixtures hosted by Ranelagh Harriers. Other league members are Thames Hare & Hounds, Dorking & Mole Valley, South London Harriers, Hercules Wimbledon, Ranelagh Harriers, Reigate Priory and Stagglers.

There were a total of 29 runners starting the 2.84 mile race across all age groups - U17, U15, and U13. The first HHH runner to cross the line was Henry Sutcliffe U17, our only runner in this age group, who came 8th overall in a time of 16:55. Our second HHH runner was Lascelles Hussey (U13) who came 13th overall in a time of 17:58 and was 2nd in the U13 colts race.

We had a strong contingent of U15 boys including Joe Kidson - 18:26, Dan Willmott - 18.40, Dominic Wynes-Devlin - 18:43, Jamal Langley - 18:46, Joel MacIntyre - 19:09, and John Tayleur - 19:23 and a second U13 runner Frazer Cunningham coming 8th in the U13 colts table in a time of 21:39.

These results gave us 2nd place overall in the Colts Division 1 table and 3rd place overall in the Youth and Boys Division 1 table. A full list of the results can be found by clicking here (hyperlink to Ranelagh Harriers website).

We really need as many boys as possible if we are to move up to a higher position in the table as the top 4 places for each team all earn valuable points.

Well done to all the boys who competed for HHH and earned points for the club, and we hope to see more boys at the next event in November.

Lascelles Hussey
