It was a successful day for many of our runners. I was sadly unable to compete due to injury but thanks to Sam’s “Deep Relief” I managed to jog round and support the teams but of course I didn’t see lots of the runners because they were much too fast for me.
Congratulations to the U13 girls who managed to win the bronze team medal with Alex West coming 7th and leading the team in 17:14, followed by Georgie Kay, 13th in 17:13, Teresa La Rosee, 23rd in 18:51, Francesca Meade, 25th in 18:51 and Chantal Banton, 53rd in 23:51. The girls managed to do this even though they were in one of the most competitive age groups.
The U13 boys also closed a team. Jake Wendon finished 30th in 16:40, Michael Brown was 33rd in 17:01, Fraser Cunningham was 66th in 20:53 and Ian Soutter was 68th in 20:49.
Congratulations also to Lewis Lloyd for winning a silver medal in the U15 boys' race in 15:11 and by quite some distance. The U15 boys and U17 women were very close to getting team medals but because many of the runners in these teams were injured or ill they just missed out. Daniel Wilmott was 20th for the U15 boys in 16:56, followed by John Tayleur who was 32nd in 17:53 and James Allen who was 45th in 18:54. The U15 girls lacked a few runners, so they didn’t do as well as they would have hoped especially as they had strong runners in the team of three. Katie Snowden was 6th in 16:45, Leila Abandah was 25th in 20:39 and Tamsin Cornelius was 27th in 20:53.
Our leading runner in the U17 men's race was Samuel Woods who finished 13th in 29:26. Behind him came Henry Sutcliffe in 28th place in 32:40, Jack Storey, 40th in 38:09 and Nathan Stone, 42nd in 39:59. Aisha Naibe-Wey was 15th in the U17 women's race in 23:15 ahead of Avril Robinson, 16th in 23:51.
As many of our top runners were not able to compete due to injury and illness it shows that if hard training continues we can look forward to improving these results in the future championships.
Well done to everyone who ran.
